Who remembers Jell-O Soft Swirl dessert mix from the 70s
Jell-O’s Soft Swirl packaged dessert mix debuted in 1971, and joined its cousin — pudding mix — on supermarket shelves.

Compared to basic instant pudding, Soft Swirl was more mousse-like. With that in mind, in their promotional efforts, the company went for the angle that Soft Swirl was a fancier kind of dessert… good enough for guests, so a treat to have on regular days.

It was so fancy, in fact, that the Jello folks enlisted Florence Henderson (that’s Carol Brady to you) to introduce the stuff — and you can see one of those TV commercials below.

The last advertising mention of the product that we could find was from 1987, when the Swirl mix seems to have quietly disappeared. We think maybe Cousin Pudding was behind its demise, but that has not been confirmed by authorities.
