Toll House Kookie Brittle recipe

A delicious variation on America’s favorite cookie treat

Kookie brittle (1967)

Ingredients

1 cup margarine
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
2 cups sifted flour
1 6-02. pkg. (1 cup) Nestle’s Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
1 cup finely-chopped Diamond Walnuts

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 F. Combine margarine, vanilla, and salt in bowl and blend well. Gradually beat in sugar. Add flour, chocolate chips, and 3/4 cup walnuts; mix well.

Press evenly into ungreased 15″ x 10″ x 1″ pan. Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup walnuts over top and press in lightly.

Bake at 375F. Time: 25 minutes, or till golden brown. Cool, then break into irregular pieces.

Makes about 1-3/4 pounds of cookie brittle.
