Green Angel Lime Cake recipe (1978)
This Green Angel Lime Cake recipe is based on a traditional angel food cake, but gets a little extra zip from the addition of green lime flavor Jello – then the whole thing is slathered in a light fluffy fruit-flavored frosting.

You can swap out gelatin flavors in both the cake and the frosting if you want something different — maybe a pink raspberry cake with a yellow lemon frosting? Or at Christmas, you could use strawberry or cherry instead of the lime inside the angel cake. So many choices!

Instructions

1 pkg. angel food cake mix
1 pkg. (3-ounces) Lime Jell-O gelatin

Icing

1 pkg. (3-ounces) Lime Jell-O
1 cup boiling water
1 (9 oz.) container Cool Whip, thawed

Directions

Prepare cake mix as directed on package, folding gelatin into 1/3 of the batter. Alternately spoon batters into ungreased 10 inch tube pan. Zigzag spatula through batters. Bake on lowest rack at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes until cake springs back when lightly pressed. Turn pan upside down over funnel or bottle to cool completely. Remove from pan. Frost and garnish with lime slices, if desired. Chill.

Fluffy fruit flavor frosting: Dissolve gelatin in boiling water. Chill until slightly thickened; blend in Cool Whip. NOTE: Substitute different colors and flavors Jello for different holidays.
