Cheese-stuffed meatloaf & tomato sauce made the perfect ‘60s dinner

This cheese-stuffed meatloaf from 1964 was Hunt’s answer to the mid-century craving for hearty, family-style dinners with a little twist. Instead of the usual loaf, this version adds layers of melty American cheese inside and on top, giving it that cheeseburger-style feel that was starting to trend in home kitchens back then. Add in two full cans of Hunt’s Tomato Sauce and you’ve got a dinner that’s classic 60s comfort food.

What makes this meatloaf stand out is how straightforward it is. The ingredients are simple, the steps are easy, and the flavor delivers. It was the kind of recipe made for busy home cooks who wanted something filling and dependable, but still a little fun. Cheese-stuffed meatloaf checked all those boxes.
