This ’70s recipe not only looks delicious and different with some colorful vegetables on top and inside, but it’s also quick to make. The meat layers need to bake for just 10 minutes!

Burger layer 'cake'

Prep Time: 13 minutes
Cook Time: 17 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons catsup
  • 3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 6 teaspoons Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce, divided
  • 2 pounds ground lean beef
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1-1/2 cups sliced onions
  • 1 cup diced green pepper
  • 1 can (4 oz.) sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 1 tomato, diced

Instructions

  1. Combine eggs, catsup, bread crumbs, 1-1/2 tsp. salt and 5 tsp. Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Add meat; mix lightly. Divide mixture in half.
  3. Shape each half into 8-inch circle. Place on lightly-greased jelly-roll pan.
  4. Bake in preheated 450 F oven 10 minutes.
  5. Heat oil in skillet. Add onions, green pepper and mushrooms; saute 5 minutes.
  6. Add tomato, 1 tsp. Lea & Perrins and 1/2 tsp. salt; cook 2 minutes longer.
  7. Sandwich half of the vegetables between meat rounds. Top with remaining vegetables.
  8. Serve in wedges.
