Here's a retro dinner recipe from the 1950s for a potato-topped hamburger and green bean casserole.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons green bell pepper, chopped
  • 16 ounce can green beans whole, cut or French
  • 1/8 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 4 or 5 medium potatoes, mashed
  • Paprika

Instructions

  1. Brown hamburger meat.
  2. Add onion and green pepper. Cook until onion is golden brown.
  3. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, green beans (including liquid), salt and pepper.
  4. Simmer for half an hour.
  5. Pour into casserole dish and top with mashed potatoes. Sprinkle potatoes with paprika.
  6. Bake in moderate oven (350 F) until potatoes turn golden brown.
