Throughout this high-end 1960s home, antiques and modern furniture were paired with confidence, as exemplified by this luxe vintage dining room decor.
Back in 1965, the owners of this home in Palm Beach, Florida, wanted to combine the existing contemporary furnishings with their collection of English, French and Chinese antiques.
Their interior designers were asked to make every room in the house feel like it was springtime all year round. In the dining room, that meant combining golden glows with jonquil yellows and soft browns.
The golds of this space were echoed first by striped Italian cotton curtains, deepened in the tan suede-covered chairs, then augmented with bits of brown in a then-new rug woven from Spain.
The chairs and lacquered table with its beautiful brass pedestals were French and contemporary.
French, too, but centuries older were the antique Regence console and mirror, gilded to perfection.
Oldest of all, and cool as a piece of ivory amid all this dazzling sunniness, was the ancient Chinese lacquered screen with a dragon border.

Just goes to show you that classic design never goes out of style. If you saw this dining room in a home magazine today, you wouldn’t think twice about it. Nothing dated or out of place. Just good design.
