All the cool colors — blue, sapphire, mauve, purple — undulated like the waves of the sea in the dramatic master bedroom of this home that was decorated in 1970.
The stunning waves of blue were actually a graphic print stretch fabric that covered the walls, bed, bedside table and shutters.
It had a great feel for the creative oceanside home of designer Jack Simpson, which looked toward the beach in Southampton on New York’s Long Island.

The same water colors were repeated in the shag area rug, along with a splash of leaf green.
The Victorian Gothic chair, painted matte white, added a romantic pattern and the surprise of contrast to the room’s whimsy.
Above the waves of cool blue decor, the white ceiling was divided with narrow black truss beams that crossed the vaulted ceiling.
