Check out some of the vintage report cards of a family friend — clearly an excellent student — who grew up in San Francisco’s Outer Mission district during the fifties.
The ’50s vintage report cards list classes, grades, citizenship, absences and tardy times, and are from two schools: Denman Junior High and Balboa High.
Those two school’s classrooms also had another student around the same time who went on to become world-famous: musician Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. (Young Jerry is shown at right.)
So no, they’re not Jerry Garcia’s old school report cards, but are from someone who knew him… and who remembers young Jerry as a quiet kid who taught other students how to play guitar.
Regardless of your musical preferences, these are some fun little pieces of the past.
