The rich pumpkin color of these kitchen cabinets, highlighted by incandescent ceiling spotlights, gave this kitchen a cheery glow that compensated for its lack of a view.
Seen here shortly after it was remodeled in 1965, this pumpkin orange kitchen also had a vintage black and white checkerboard pattern of vinyl floor tiles — a basic but popular look for the era — which somehow really worked with this brightly colored decor.
Plain white countertops and stainless steel cooking appliances let the orange glow of the decor stay dominant.
The cooking area, shown here, was a U-shape, and at the end of the room — between the refrigerator and the oven — the owner had a small white built-in planning desk, where she could make out menus and confer with her cook.
