Once his musical career got established, the multi-talented Roy Orbison (1936-1988) was rarely seen without his trademark dark shades. We found a few different photos of the man without any glasses on to allow you a closer look at this talented star.
The story goes that Roy had poor vision from a young age, so needed to wear glasses. Sometime around 1962, though, he left his regular eyeglasses on a plane, and had to go onstage with his prescription sunglasses instead.
He soon realized that he liked the dark glasses better under the bright stage lights… and so Roy Orbison’s trademark style was born.
