This 1970s Beverly Hills homeowner liked to have a few friends in for tea in the curve of this elegant bay window, part of an old-fashioned room filled with antique treasures and classic furnishings.

In the sunny space below the tall windows, four Irish Chippendale chairs were arranged around an English Regency dolphin table holding a Regency lapis lazuli urn from London.

The lush fabrics that antiques require are part of a rich color palette. In this living room, understated damask draperies echo the fresh raspberry color of the 22-foot-high walls.

Throughout are lessons in living with the treasures of yesterday that could be applied to any more modest collection or even to that one antique accent.
