Check out this geometric graphic-clad sunken bed that was right at home in a bright red room.
What’s surprising is that the decor for this 1973 bedroom was all DIY — and made from sheets, towels and carpeting.
The quilt, looking like a bold graphic, was made by sewing sheeting strips on a fluffy blanket. Pillowcases had a bit of the same in a bedroom that was an environment of color pared down to comfort.
The bed, a box spring sunk into a carpeted platform, was topped with a 4-inch-deep foam latex mattress; all the better for changing sheets. The headboard was a 10-inch-deep carpeted plywood block.
Instead of curtains, windows were framed with folding screens covered in sheeting. The bedside table was a lacquered cube, while the floor pillows were covered in terry towels.
After the lively touches of natural color from a few potted plants, the rounded red retro hanging pendant lamp (see a similar hanging light here) and matching mini television were the perfect extra touches.
