From the last year of the 1860s — just four years after the end of the Civil War — come these dozen fashion plates showing antique walking dresses.

In addition to showing the latest styles for women, a few of these pages from Peterson’s magazine did double-duty by including a stylized name at the top, ready to use as a needlework guide to personalize handkerchiefs or other sewing projects.
