A personal room that invited family or friends, this cozy sunroom from the 70s was a dazzle of color — but the colors never intimidated, never overpowered.

Carrying through the basic theme of yellow from elsewhere in the house, this entertaining room brought in the exotic qualities of the East in a purely contemporary American way.

Marigold-yellow walls happily blended with fabrics and flowers from the garden to make a simple room setting a happy, cheerful family sitting area.

there were couches with plump cushions and chairs to curl up in, and extra pillows on the floor. Sturdy cotton paisley covered two tufted sofas with their mélange of Indian and Pakistani pillows.

An antique howdah hung from the ceiling, sturdy enough to hold adults who wanted to look out onto the ravine.

Vinyl-coated wallpaper concealed a bar and small built-in kitchen at the far end. Two brightly colored cockatoos in their cage guarded the room, along with a benign ceramic leopard.
