When this once-dilapidated Victorian home was remodeled back in 1950, the owners didn’t want to superimpose contemporary design on the narrow, high-ceilinged formal living room.
To widen the room, the owners eliminated an old hallway, and set up a new shielding wall right against the stairs. This way, privacy was acquired along with extra floor space.
Notice how a relatively few moderately-scaled pieces of furniture kept this slim room looking elegantly uncrowded.
The owners revived and embraced the elegance of this restored Victorian living room by using marble fireplaces and rich fabrics.
Despite coming more than 50 years after the end of the era, the new fifties decor shrewdly retained the original grace and luxuriously old-fashioned flavor of the home.
