The Addams Family TV series was based on the characters from Charles Addams’ cartoons that appeared in New Yorker starting back in 1938. Considering the show’s huge impact on popular culture, you might not believe that the half-hour show originally ran for just two seasons (64 episodes), from September 18, 1964 to April 8, 1966.

The show portrayed the everyday life of the kooky and spooky family, consisting of Morticia Frump Addams (played by Carolyn Jones), Gomez Addams (John Astin), Uncle Fester (former child star Jackie Coogan), Lurch (Ted Cassidy), Grandmama Addams (Marie Blake), and the kids Wednesday (Lisa Loring) and Pugsley Addams (Ken Weatherwax).

The Addams Family theme song lyrics

They’re creepy and they’re kooky,
Mysterious and spooky,
They’re all together ooky,
The Addams Family.

Their house is a museum,
Where people come to see ’em.
They really are a scream,
The Addams Family.

Neat.
Sweet.
Petite.

So get a witches shawl on,
A broomstick you can crawl on,
We’re gonna pay a call on
The Addams Family.
