Christmas cutout cookies recipe

1961-christmas-cutout-holiday-cookie-recipe2 cups sifted flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk or cream
Colored Vanilla Frosting


Sift together first 6 ingredients. Cream margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Stir in flour mixture with milk. Blend thoroughly. Chill 1 hour. On lightly floured board, roll out dough to 1/4″ thickness. Cut in reindeer or other shapes.

Bake on cookie sheet in moderate oven (350 F) 10 minutes, or until lightly browned at the edges. Cool. Decorate with Colored Frosting.

Colored Vanilla Frosting

Beat until smooth: 1-1/2 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar, 2 tablespoons cream and 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract. To color, add a few drops of vegetable food coloring.

Makes about 3 dozen 2-3/4″ cookies
