House & Garden renovated this Florida home, with the goal of using color to give a traditional house and furniture the vibrant look of the 1960s.
Throughout the interior, there were many classic architectural elements, such as generously wide doors, marble-ledged windows that extended almost from floor to ceiling, and beautiful bay windows.
But there were also updates made for hot climate comforts: terracotta tile floors, built-in air-conditioning, the eye-lifting refreshment of lofty ceilings.
One of the most exciting of H&G’s decorator colors for 1965 — Tiger Lily — made its first appearance in this pink & orange striped entrance hall.
A piquant companion to the orange-red tones of the terracotta tile floor, the wallpaper striped in Tiger Lily (orange), white and pink drew you compellingly into the house, preparing you for the bountiful color to come.
The stripes appeared on three sides of the first part of this festive foyer, and the archway beyond was covered all over the archway — baseboard to ceiling.
