The Battle of Bunker Hill occurred on June 17, 1775, during the siege of Boston, and is considered to be the first major battle of the American Revolution. The 221-foot granite obelisk monument was completed in 1842, and dedicated on June 17, 1843 — sixty-eight years to the day after the battle. Below is an image of the monument’s dedication ceremony, as envisioned by the artists at Currier & Ives.
