Regular US combat units were deployed to Vietnam beginning in 1965, and while America’s direct military involvement ended on August 15, 1973, the last soldiers left Vietnam on March 29, 1975. The official statistics for Americans alone: 58,193 American soldiers killed; more than 300,000 wounded, and 2,000 troops missing in action.
