NYC subway nears completion (1904)

Interest in the subway grows

As it nears completion, interest in the subway grows — underground shops — safety devices.

The workmen call this John B M’donald’s pet. It is the subway station at Twenty-third St and Fourth Ave. Behind the brick pillars at the left is the basement of a building in Fourth Ave. This basement now has a fine, light front on the subway, and will be rented at a high figure as one large shop or several small ones.

A signal tower operated by compressed air and two views of the electric third rail carefully covered for its entire length.
