Velvet Cookies recipe

Mild cookies with a pleasantly soft texture.


candied-cherries1-3/4 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 cup chopped candied cherries
1/3 cup margarine
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1/4 cup sour cream
1/2 cup finely-chopped walnuts


Sift together flour, salt and soda. Add cherries. Cream margarine and sugar. Stir in vanilla and egg. Add cherry-flour mixture and sour cream. Mix thoroughly. Drop by teaspoonfuls on sheets and sprinkle with walnuts. Bake in moderate oven (350 F) 10 to 12 minutes, or until edges are slightly browned.

Makes about 50 cookies.
